The First Mile

This morning, about 6-7 weeks after I started running, I ran my first mile without stopping to walk at all! It was actually 1.04 miles to be exact! (I found out after coming home and using www.mapmyrun.com.) I'm glad I went the extra block or it may not have been a mile.

I forgot my watch today, so I'm not sure what my pace was, but I'm guessing it was in the 11-12 minute range. It's probably better that I didn't have my watch--I would have been tempted to walk around the 9 minute mark if I'd had it. I usually run between 5-7 minutes before walking, but have done as many as 10 before.

So, now it's on to the next goal. . .making this a regular occurrence!

Don't let them hold that 'bug' carrot in front of you. I've been running for years and HATE every single moment of it!! It may be good for you, but man is it ever MISERY!!

I am proud of you, though. I hope that you do end up liking it, but even if you don't, you have to be proud of your progress. :)

What works for me is that I give myself a time to shoot for... like 40 minutes. I find that in that scenario, the first 20 minutes is hell, and from then it gets a little better.

Animals know running sucks and that's why in the wild they don't run unless they are chasing/being chased and it is a matter of life and death. It surprises me that people aren't smart enough to figure that one out too. ;-)

Go ride a bike instead!
